Pine Creek CO sr Heather Bates, third best overall at Liberty Bell CO last week, was second in 14:26.30 and Rogers AR sr Maggie Montoya third in 14:34.04. Bishop Carroll sr Kaelyn Balch was the next Kansan in fourth at 14:54.47. ** Another top Kansan, Valley Center sr Morgan Wedekind, won the girls Crimson Varsity race in 15:04.08. ** Pine Creek CO had two in the top 10, three in the top 15 and six in the top 40, winning the girls’ Gold Varsity race with 78 points. Iowa City West IA topped Lee’s Summit West MO for second on a tiebreaker, as each scored 163 points. ** In the boys Gold Varsity 5k race, the first four finished within four seconds, as Marquette MO went 1-2 with Adam Roderique (15:26.52) and Noah Kauppila (15:28.25) – one of the best duos in the region and a rising national 1-2 punch. Simon Belete (Blue Springs MO) and Colton Donahue (Blue Valley KS) followed in 15:29.89 and 15:30.58. ** A high-scoring boys’ team race in Gold Varsity saw Blue Springs MO score 155, with Chaparral CO (196) and Rogers AR (202) following. ** Truman MO jr Cole Rockhold had a strong 15:37.95 to win the Crimson Varsity boys race.
